Domain Name Registration
If you do not already have a domain name, I can carry out a search on your behalf to see if the name you want is available, and then register it for you.
A domain name is a unique name by which a resource on the internet (e.g. your website) can be addressed. Although not strictly speaking correct, is it easiest to think of a website address as being a domain name. For example Google's domain name is "google.com".
Every domain name ends in a Top Level Domain (TLD) name, which is always either one of a small list of generic names (three or more characters), or a two characters territory code, e.g. ".com" or "co.uk".
Within a particular top level domain, parties are free to select an unallocated domain name as their own on a first come, first served basis.
You can use the search form in the sidebar to see if the domain name you would like is available.
Tips for choosing a Domain Name
- Domain names can only contains letters, numbers, and hyphens ("-"). Spaces and symbols are not allowed. Domain names are not case sensitive, i.e. MyDomain.com is the same as mydomain.com.
- Try to choose a name that is short and easy to remember.
- Choose a name that represents the activities of your company or the purpose of your website.
- Make sure that the name that you choose is not similar to a wellknown brand name or trademark.
- If you search for your domain name and find that not all of the TLDs for that domain name are still available then it may be worthwhile choosing a different name. For example, if you search for mydomain.co.uk and find that it is available but mydomain.com is not then it is probably better to choose another name.
- If you search for mydomain.com and find that it is available along with the other major TLDs (.co.uk, .net and .org) then you should consider purchasing all of these TLDs. This will prevent potential customers failing to find your site and going to one of the other TLDs instead.
